Keeping Newark Tidy has become a monthly campaign for three local business people, Daniel Otton, Lesley Pashley and Linda Clark.
The group was formed following a Newark Business Club meeting last year, where comments were made about the main gateways into the town looking untidy due to road condition and litter. Specific areas such as the A1 and the slip road were causing particular concern.
With the Great British Spring Clean month taking place between the 22 March and the 23 April 2019, the Keep Newark Tidy team are inviting people from across the town to join in and litter pick in their area on Wednesday 17 April.
Linda Clark co founder of the group said βThe Great British Spring Clean is an ideal time to encourage local people to join in. With Radio Newark running the Love Where You Live Campaign it seems like an ideal opportunity to take this forward and clean up our town.β
Each month the group pick a different area around the town to meet and collect the litter from the streets; this very often results in collecting anything from 10 to 15 bags of litter. So far the group has been litter picking in the areas surrounding Lincoln Road, London Road β Newark and Balderton, Barnbygate, Albert Street, Bowbridge Road and Boundary Road.
Following a meeting with Newark & Sherwood District Council the team have now put together a programme for the coming year. Matthew Finch and Andrew Kirk from the council were in full support of the Keep Newark Tidy initiative and have offered as much support as they can.
The group will be meeting on the following dates 17 April β Great British Spring Clean, 8 May, 3 June, 21 June, 9 July, 15 July, 2 August, 14 August, 4 September, 7 October, 6 November and 6 December.
