As of 10 March 2021 Housing Secretary, Robert Jenrick, announced a further extension to the ban on bailiff-enforced evictions for private renters in England, in all but the most serious circumstances – such as incidents of fraud or domestic abuse.
The requirement for landlords to provide six-month notice periods to tenants before they evict will also be extended until at least 31 May 2021.
We were hopeful for a reduced notice period but it looks like this may stay in place for a while yet. With Furlough schemes now in place until September the notice periods will remain in order to protect tenants from evictions which will not help landlords who need to regain possession of their properties.
