Meet the team

Melanie Bowen

Manager

As Manager it’s Melanie’s job to ensure the smooth running of the business and that includes everything from making sure all our properties comply with the ever increasing number of legal requirements and dealing with the many and varied problems that can arise during a day’s work for either our tenants or landlords, to making sure that the tea bags don’t run out.

Melanie’s work experience has always been within a customer service background and for several years it was a joke with her friends that she was aiming to work in every business along Grantham’s High Street, having worked for the Electricity Board, Gas Board, WHSmith, Goldings, Nationwide and Dixons all of which were on the High Street in those days, however since joining Hill and Hill Property Management in 1999 (now EMPM) she has enjoyed working in lettings so much that she has not changed jobs since!

Melanie is a landlord herself and works on the principal that every property at EMPM is given the care and attention she would devote to her own houses. The principle of offering clean, well maintained properties and ensuring repairs are attended to promptly, means that tenants are happy. We understand that while the landlord is the client, a happy tenant will tend to stay longer in a property, look after it as they would their own property and pay the rent on time. A Happy Tenant means a Happy Landlord. As a fully qualified member of ARLA, Melanie’s knowledge of both the lettings business and Grantham means she is the obvious choice for you and your property.

Melanie grew up in Grantham and has lived and worked in the Grantham area for many years, so she is well equipped to answer any queries about the area. Married with 2 grown up children she is now enjoying all things being a grandparent entails! Melanie enjoys horse riding and walking her dog and can be seen on the local bridleways or footpaths most evenings and weekends. When she’s not doing that, her other passion is gardening, however when it’s too cold, wet or dark to do the outside stuff she enjoys reading and has rediscovered her knitting skills since becoming a grandma.

Lynn Ford

Lettings Negotiator

Lynn has worked for EMPM for over ten years, previously having worked in the public housing sector. Her role is to carry out viewings, and meet prospective tenants, carry out move-ins & move outs with tenants, completing inventory checks and meter readings, testing fire alarms etc to ensure that both tenants & landlords are kept up to date at all times.

She also looks after the pool car (no one else knows where the petrol goes!). When not out & about, her main task, other than dealing with tenant & landlord queries, is to post all invoices on the system for accounts and organise the Gas safety checks.

She is a very young at heart Nanny, who enjoys travelling around the UK, Europe & sometimes further afield with the lovely Mr Ford.  She loves the warmth & sun & hates the cold.

Lorna Maguire

Letting Administrator

Lorna has worked with the Grantham branch of EMPM Ltd for over 9 years. She enjoys working with the public and has various roles within the office, mainly dealing with new applications for prospective tenants and seeing it through to their move in; this involves referencing, completing the paperwork and keeping the Landlord informed of the progress and happy. By being very careful in her tenant selection means she only has nice ones!

Occasionally Lorna can be found in the accounts department when the need arises, helping with queries and payment runs too.

Now Lorna’s daughter has flown the nest and started University she now needs to find a new hobby/outlet to fill her time up, other than her usual Friday night wine club! Lorna unlike some of her work colleagues openly admits hating going to the gym but can be found most days quite happily walking her crazy Whippet.

Ann Corner

Letting Administrator

Ann has worked at EMPM Grantham for over 10 years. Her main job is to do the renewal of the tenancy agreements, making sure that tenancies run smoothly from one year to the next, this involves writing to tenants and organising maintenance visit appointments to the properties managed, and dealing with any problems that may arise from those visits. After the visits have taken place, Ann then sets about sorting out the paperwork to ensure continuity of those tenancies. Another of her jobs is making sure the stationery cupboard is always kept fully stocked so everybody in the office has the materials needed to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities.

At nearly 60, Ann, must to be the oldest post girl there is, as she can often be found towards the end of the day, taking the post to the local post box. She makes quite a good cup of tea too and is always happy to have a chat with any landlords or tenants that pop into the office. For the last 4 years Ann has enjoyed spending time with her growing number of grandchildren.

 

Laura Smith

Lettings Negotiator

Laura has worked for EMPM Ltd for 3 years. Originally based at the Newark branch, Laura joined the team at Grantham in February 2016. Laura covers all aspects of the job within lettings from viewings, move ins, move outs and property inspections. Laura is a Landlord herself so is empathetic to ensure all properties are being looked after properly by tenants. By visiting the properties regularly this ensures that she can keep abreast of any maintenance issues which may arise.

Whilst at a property inspection she ensures that the new legislations are kept up to date such as smoke alarms / Co2 detectors, Legionella risks etc. Laura oversees all paperwork correspondence relating to move outs, from accepting the initial notice, to re advertising the property etc right through to the move out day to ensure the process runs smoothly.

Laura is a busy mum of two whom finds herself taxiing her children to various sporting events around the country.

 

 

Veronica Clarke

Accounts Administrator

Veronica is the “new girl” having joined the team (part time) in August 2015. Veronica covers all aspects of the job relating to the accounts from posting and processing the rents, processing and paying supplier invoices and making sure that all of our Landlords are paid the correct amount and on time.

She previously worked for a Dentist on the outskirts of Lincoln for 16 years and prior to that for Barclays Bank, all over Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire for 16 years. So we think potentially she’s got another 15 years before she can even consider looking for another job!

Having lived near Grantham for the past 20 years, she spends her time away from work attending gym classes, cycling and attending sports events. She also enjoys the odd holiday or two with her husband.
